"…And If You Know Our History…"

The Glasgow Celtic FC Supporters' Club in Brussels kicked-off towards the end of the 1997 - 98 season and it is among the most active football supporters' groups in the European capital.

Sixteen pioneers participated in the inaugural meeting of the "Brussels CSC" on 4 June 1998, called at the initiative of life-long bhoy, Conor Leeson. Since then, it has grown steadily and now has more than 70 paid-up members. Indeed, from its largely Scottish and Irish ex-patriate beginnings, the CSC now has strong Belgian representation among its members, including many who travel from outside the Brussels area. Reflecting the breadth of the Celtic "family" worldwide, it also now includes members originating from as far afield as New Zealand and the United States, as well as from France, the Netherlands and Italy.

From its Brussels base, the Supporters' Club organises trips to Glasgow each season to watch Celtic in action. Brussels-based supporters were privileged to be present last season to see Celtic hero Neil Lennon lift the Premier League Championship trophy at the end of his last season at the club.

In recent seasons, Brussels-based supporters have been part of the action on memorable nights of European competition against Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Lyon, Stuttgart and Milan. The Brussels CSC was also, of course, part of the 80,000-strong army of Celtic supporters that descended on Seville in May 2003 when their team played in the UEFA Cup Final.

The Brussels CSC itself had the honour of welcoming the 7,000 Celtic supporters who came to town in October 2003 to support their team against Anderlecht in the Champions' League.

Over the years, the Brussels CSC has had the pleasure of hosting a number of important visitors from Celtic. To mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of Celtic becoming the first British club to win the European Cup, Jim Craig, one of the stars of the "Lisbon Lions" team that conquered Europe was guest of honour at a dinner dance. The CSC has also welcomed former Celtic and Republic of Ireland star goalkeeper Packie Bonner at a gala dinner. Soon after joining Celtic, Belgian international Joos Valgaeren spent a memorable evening with the members of the Brussels CSC for an illuminating question and answer session.

In addition to watching football, the CSC has its own team. In June of 2005, it won the International Supporters' Tournament organised by FC Ličge, carrying off the Johan-Felix trophy. In June 2006, it followed up this performance by finishing runners-up in another International Supporters' Tournament organised by the famous Union Saint-Gilloise club in memory of its player Cyril Mangin.

The Brussels CSC looks forward to continuing to add to its history in the seasons ahead.
