Last call for the treble treble!
HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH CUP FINAL, SATURDAY, 25th MAY
KICK-OFF 16H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic head to Hampden tomorrow for their tilt at a treble treble in the Scottish Cup Final, an unprecedented feat, and placing the Bhoys as the only team in the world to have completed 3 trebles in succession, and matching the feat of Manchester City in England in the same year, albeit with around 0.8% of the budget to do so.
Neil Lennon will be hoping to have a full team at his disposal, with Kirean Tierney making a bid for fitness before a double hernia operation, and Mikael Lustig, Scott Brown, James Forrest, Jonny Hayes and Odsonne Edouard have rejoined the match squad and would be expected to start. Mikey Johnston will have done his chances of selection no harm after bagging two goals last weekend, and Karamoko Dembele has been included once more and may get a chance to impress again.
There should be a good turnout at the Michael Collins, and hopefully a part atmosphere with an excuse for it!

League title celebration or Scottish Cup warm-up?
CELTIC V HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 19th MAY
KICK-OFF 16H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic finish off their league campaign at home to Hearts in a warm-up to the Cup Final one week later. It’s unlikely that it will serve as a real warm-up in the real sense, as Tierney, Forrest, Hayes, Edouard, Lustig and Brown may be rested with injuries, to ensure they have the best chance of playing the following week.
What that means as Celtic receive their 8th successive league trophy, and think ahead to a treble treble, is that fringe players may well come into contention, and that may well include the second Dembélé this season, in Karamoke Dembélé. While the media may focus on the teen sensation, Lenny may also take the opportunity to blood other successes from the reserve squad such as the magnificently named Armstrong Okoflex, or another outing for Ewan Henderson. There may also be a sighting of a player seeking to make a mark next season in Marvan Shved.
The game will mark the occasion to celebrate as champions, and for players to make their case for cup final inclusion.

Ibrox hosts the 8 in a row Champions.
THE RANGERS V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 12th MAY
KICK-OFF 13H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic travel to Ibrox on Sunday for the early kick-off with their 8th successive title in the bag, few injuries to worry about and now warming up for a shot at the treble treble (or if you’re a purist, the less prosaic triple treble). Kieran Tierney and PC Lustig are fit and raring to go, and will no doubt be joined at the back by Ajer and goal machibe Jozo.
Theoretically, Neil Lennon could seize the opportunity to blood some younger players, but may be reluctant to do so with his managerial future and the kudos of an other Glasgow victory up for grabs. He will head across Glasgow with a side with increased confidence, but without Timo Weah who after being made unavailable for the Cup final has been deemed surplus to requirements and has already packed his bags. With the next and final opponents in the league also our cup final opponents, expect few changes other than rested players in the next few weeks.

Crawling over the line…
ABERDEEN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY, 4th MAY
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back in league action on Saturday, knowing that just one point at Pittodrie will win them the league title. Derek McInnes side will face them without the manager on the touchline in the early Saturday kick-off, and while they will be well organised, they will also be depleted with Considine suspended and missing former Celts McGinn and Mackay-Steven through injury. In addition, strikers McLennan and Stewart are doubtful and departing midfield captain Shinnie is out.
The Bhoys may have Kieran Tierney after he returned to training this week, although he will now definitely need a hernia operation at the end of the season, or possibly before. The Dons always provide a challenge if they can manage to stay on the pitch, so Neil Lennon will be looking for a long-awaited return to form. This is a week which has been overcast with the departure of another of the Lisbon Lions in Stevie Chalmers, and the final farewell to Cesar today at Celtic Park. Let’s hope we see a return to form at the ground where he built his reputation as manager.
May they Rest In Peace.

Back to the league and heading for number 8...
HIBERNIAN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 21th APRIL
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back to league action on Sunday, a week after setting themselves up for the Scottish Cup with a comprehensive victory over Aberdeen, the only downside of which is Ryan Christie’s season now looks finished. Neil Lennon will have to consider some of his other resources, but should have the same XI that finished last Sunday’s clash fit and ready to go.
In an interesting addition to the mix, Celtic could start the match on Sunday knowing that anything but a win by their title rivals the day before means they could wrap un their 8th successive league title, but will be focussed on a win at the ground where Lenny started 2019 as manager. The reception will be interesting, and barring Christie, Boyata and Jack Hendry (injured in a reserve match this week), there are no other major injury doubts.

Time to get the challenge on track on Sunday for the Bhoys, as it’s one step closer to the possible treble treble, and maybe the hardest match of the season.
ABERDEEN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH CUP SEMI-FINAL, SUNDAY, 14th APRIL
KICK-OFF 15H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Back to Hampden for the Bhoys, with one trophy in the bag, the league title almost within their grasp and a semi-final clash that Neil Lennon admits everyone who is not a Celtic fab will be wanting them to lose.
Celtic stuttered against Livingston, but the team have only a few doubts in Burke and Benkovic, the latter training this week, and although Bayo looks to be out for a while, he was unlikely to play a major role yet. The final injury B is Boyata, and he should be missing the rest of the season.
Their opponents tomorrow have been arguably the best competitors in the league but have mixed results since January, although they managed a 0-0 at Celtic Park a month ago, but Lennon’s Bhoys will need no major motivation to get one step closer to the trophy, even if Lenny himself didn’t want to be close to it yesterday…

Short, but sweet...
CELTIC V LIVINGSTON, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY, 6th APRIL
KICK-OFF 16H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are at home on a surface unfamiliar to today’s opponents, Livingston, as it will hopefully be approaching grass once more. Neil Lennon’s Bhoys are two wins away from the title, and could even clinch it before the spilt depending on results elsewhere on Sunday.
Celtic are highly likely to be without Tierney and certainly without Boyata, who may never wear the jersey again as he is linked with end of season moves. Despite that, personnel availability improves with Ryan Christie back with a bang and others returning.
Talking of the split, watch this space as the CSC will be looking to repeat last year’s end of season trip to Celtic Park…

Short, but sweet...
ST MIRREN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, WEDNESDAY, 3rd APRIL
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Bhoys return to business, on the road this time, after only 3 days out, with a clash of two teams at the opposite ends of the table. Celtic could wrap up the title by the weekend, while St Mirren are facing a relegation fight. Three points will be vital for both, but after a hard-fought (literally by some of the opposition) win on Sunday, Celtic will be focussed, but likely to have Tierney and Boyata absent following their early withdrawals, and perhaps missing the remainder of the season.
Others will look to build on fitness, so Ntcham and Rogic may feature again, but Lenny wants the title wrapped up as quickly as possible, so the Bhoys should be on the front foot tonight.

One step further to 8 in a row?
CELTIC V THE RANGERS, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY 31th MARCH
KICK-OFF 13H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Bhoys resume domestic action on Sunday, ten points clear and the top of the SPFL, looking to make it 13 against the team currently in second place, the Rangers. Neil Lennon will be glad that most of his squad, notably McGregor and Forrest, emerged unscathed from the International break. There are still injury doubts over KT and Lustig, and Benkovic may also be struggling, but the break has given more time to Ntcham, Rogic and Jozo to make progress on fitness, but still too soon for Ryan Christie.
Neil Lennon will use the last shock defeat against the Glasgow rivals to motivate his players, and will welcome a wide selection to choose from, with the major difference being a range of striking options to choose from, with Edouard fit and scoring, and Weah and Burke showing great alternative options at the start or from the bench. A win or even a draw on home turf will see the league all but over for the Bhoys, who will be motivated by the prospect of winning against the newest challengers to their title.

20 not out...
DUNDEE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 17th MARCH
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Bhoys head to Dens Park on Sunday, looking for a 21st unbeaten win, and defending an 18-year-old unbeaten run against Dundee. The confidence will be high as Dundee are sitting second last in the table, with only three more goals scored than Celtic have conceded all season.
Nothing is taken for granted, however, and Neil Lennon will be looking for the side to push on, and may well welcome back Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Filip Benkovic at some point during the game, which will come just too early for the Wizard of Aus, Tom Rogic.
Lenny will hope that the recent psychological fatigue the Bhoys have endured is washed away by some swashbuckling football once again, and to capitalise on the capitulation of their nearest league rivals by securing three points on the road. Happy St. Paddy’s day!

This time I know it’s surreal…
HIBERNIAN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH CUP QUARTER FINAL, SATURDAY, 2nd MARCH
KICK-OFF 18H15, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The cup magic is back, and Celtic go to Easter Road on Saturday evening, full of the joys of spring and possibly Rose Street, to take on the club managed a few weeks ago by one Neil Lennon. Lenny has described the swift return to both Celtic and to Easter Road as ‘surreal’ but looked comfortable enough in familiar surroundings on Wednesday evening.
On the team front, the same 14 who finished the match on Wednesday should be good to go again, although McGregor and Christie continue to miss out. The goalscoring form across the front of Celtic’s attack will give some confidence, with many looking to push for inclusion. Curiously, Celtic never managed a win when Lennon was in the opposite dugout at Easter Road, so Lennon will be hoping he can work his magic as the visiting manager.

HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, WEDNESDAY, 27th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic head for another important match at Tynecastle, in what will be (a routine match) new dawn for the current management team. (Brendan’s Bhoys) Lenny’s Legends will be pleased to move on from what was finally a comprehensive victory over Motherwell, with some injury doubts, but KT having emerged unscathed from his weekend return, and a fair clutch of players hitting form and pushing for inclusion, such as Ewan Henderson and Johnny Hayes.
After (a relaxing) the turmoil of the last few days, the Bhoys will be happy to get out on the park and propel us towards 8 in a row, and their manager’s (third) fourth title.
Note: some changes may have been made to this message since it was first created 24 hours ago.

Bouncebackability?
KILMARNOCK V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 17th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF 17H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic will look to bounce back from a disappointing result and performance against Valencia, with the reassurance than no matter how bad they can be, their SPFL contenders can be equally rubbish.
They will face a well-organised Kilmarnock side on a pitch which can be a leveller against decent opposition, so Brendan Rodgers may choose not to risk any of the Celtic team who loves their knees, while Steve Clark will look for a repeat of the type of dogged performance that has seen them get results against teams above them in the league. There will be the ongoing injury concerns, and while Kieran Tierney closes in on the first team, this game and pitch must come too early.
Speculation is that the Bhoys don’t bounce back from disappointment: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47266821 but Brendan Rodgers will have been relieved to see Saturday’s results, and may make some changes to bring in more attacking force for today.

Back on (European) nights…
CELTIC V VALENCIA , EUROPA LEAGUE ROUND of 32, THURSDAY, 14th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF 21H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are in the knockout stages once more of the Europa League, and will look to continue their development, having finished 4th in the groups stages in 2017 and 3rd in 2018 and defeated 3-1 on aggregate by Zenit St Petersburg, but the calibre of opposition is high. So Celtic will need to be on or near their best form.
The recovery room will see Izaguirre and Simunovic rejoin the squad, but the game comes too soon for Benkovic, Tierney, Ntcham and Rogic. This is the Bhoys 3rd meeting with Valencia, having never beaten them on aggregate, although in 2002 the match came down to penalties. We’ll be hoping for a night of bromance from the Bhoys and a good team display.

CELTIC V ST JOHNSTONE, SCOTTISH CUP 5th ROUND, SUNDAY, 10th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF 14H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
One week and one hour after our latest league encounter Celtic face St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, back at Celtic Park a mere 11 days after their last visit.
With a few ongoing injury issues, we can expect to see Toljan continue at right back, and Burke and Timo (Boom Boom) Weah also featuring. With the possible doubt over Izaguirre, it may be much the same team who won in Perth a week earlier, although perhaps trying to get the goals earlier than the last 12 minutes.
Tommy Wright has struggled to get a result from Brendan’s Bhoys, but will not be looking for a draw, and may look for a more positive approach that saw them create some chances in Perth. Celtic will be hoping for Cup progress, with the prospect of the treble treble still on the table.

Déjà vu all over again…
ST JOHNSTONE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 3rd FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic face St Johnstone in the Fair City only 88 hours after their last encounter with the Perth side, and one week and one hour before they face them in the Scottish Cup. So on Sunday, and next Sunday, we’ll be in the Michael Collins as Brendan Rodgers presumably works out how best to break them down even if the ref isn’t looking.
Scott Bain will likely continue in goal just in case Tommy Wright’s team manage a single shot on target unlike midweek. With a flurry of new signings, many of them prospects, we will likely see new recruits Weah (Boom boom boom) and Burke get some game time, while a little too soon for right back Toljan or striker Bayo. Edouard will continue his rehabilitation again, although Rogic, Tierney and Boyata are unlikely to be fit.
The adjustments for the midweek second half saw the Bhoys turn from comfortable to incisive, and Brendan will be looking for flair to break down a stubborn defence with home advantage. Hope to see as many of you as possible.

Game on!
CELTIC V AIRDIRIEONEANS, SCOTTISH CUP 4th ROUND, SATURDAY 19th JANUARY
KICK-OFF 18H15, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
A short update, as confirmed viewing for this afternoon, but the Bhoys will be screened live today, with likely appearances by some new faces. Oliver Burke and ‘Timo’ Weah are in the squad and likely to feature, as the Bhoys return from Dubai to continue the defence of the treble in the Scottish Cup.
An interesting test after a disappointing end of the year, but hopefully refreshed, batteries recharged and raring to go.

26/12/2018 : ABERDEEN V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) WEDNESDAY, 26th DECEMBER 2018
Boxing Clever.
ABERDEEN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, WEDNESDAY, 26th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF 15H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Bhoys come back from the (short) festive season with work to do. While it won’t define the season yet, wins in the next 2 games would set the pace in a very even SPFL where the leader has changed from week to week, and even some mediocre teams have spent a few days as league leaders. Celtic are fighting fit, and set to bring Boyata, Lustig, Brown and Edouard back from injury. Only the latter is Odsonne to start, but Mikey Johnston may have done enough to make the team, although perhaps he and Christie may literally be kept in reserve until Aberdeen tire.
Brendan has a lot of firepower to call on, and Celtic had a few Christmas treats of their own, signing 15-year-old Karamoke Dembele until 2021, and warding off some who may see him as a serious prospect for English Premier League teams. He will not therefore follow the path – and cautionary tale - of Islam Feruz, who is still at Chelsea but having played 20 games for four clubs (none of them Chelsea) in the 7 years since he left Celtic. In today’s challengers, Brendan may look to employ Rogic before the Wizard of Aus heads off to the Obscure Cup in Dubai to break down from presumably similar defensive tactics which saw the Dons compete for the League Cup and frustrate Celtic. Likely to be competitive, but a game Brendan will feel they can win, and hopefully not in too blustery conditions.

12/12/2018 : CELTIC v RB SALZBURG (EUROPA LEAGUE) THURSDAY, 13th DECEMBER 2018
Crunch time…
CELTIC V RB SALZBURG , EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 13th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF 21H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic welcome perhaps their toughest opponent from their Europa League Group, 2 months and 9 days after the group stage kicked off, and in a very different place physically, mentally and literally, as RB Salzburg arrive at the festival of light in Glasgow for the final group game.
The Bhoys know they need at least a draw, but will be likely to attack Salzburg as they have in recent games home and away, to the extent that Broony and Ntcham, although fit, may remain on the bench and be brought on to protect a lead if they can. Leigh Griffiths won’t be featuring, as he will have to spend some time out, and although there may be jokes, all the Celtic faithful will hope he can recover from personal issues and get back scoring even more goals.
Brendan will be hoping Boyata can make it back in time, but regardless of personnel, will feel the Bhoys can finish the job against the only unbeaten team in their league group. Let’s hope the European journey continues.

28/11/2018 : ROSENBORG V CELTIC (EUROPA LEAGUE) THURSDAY, 29th NOVEMBER 2018
Heading back to Trondheim for the 2nd time this season, and for the 3rd time in two seasons…
ROSENBORG V CELTIC , EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 29th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF 18H55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic head back to Norway to face Rosenborg, knowing that they must win to stand continue the ‘fighting chance’ the home win against Leipzig gave them. A Leigh Griffiths goal separated the teams the last time they played, coming after 87 minutes, but since then Celtic have looked like returning to their form of recent seasons, with players also returning to the squad to create competition. The game may come too early for skipper Broony, but Leigh Griffiths will surely have a part to play after his weekend scoring return, and Tom Rogic was also rested for Saturday in view of recent injuries but is raring to go. Even Brendan Rodgers is optimistic: “We’re winning, we’re scoring, and so many individuals are in fantastic moments of form. In truth, everything is going right, and the same could not be said a few months ago.”
One other reason to be cautiously optimistic is the home form of Rosenborg in Europe. Since the loss at Celtic Park, Rosenborg have been less resilient, losing 5-2 and 3-1 at home to Salzburg and Leipzig respectively. They wrapped up the Norwegian title at the weekend with a home draw, but will also mirror the Bhoys in having their own cup final at the weekend against Stromsgodset. With this in mind, and knowing they cannot qualify, Rini Coolen has indicated they may play some reserve players: “"It's possible that some players will be rested for the Europa League match. It will be very difficult to pick two full strength teams against both Celtic and Stromsgodset. I wish it was possible.”
A big performance away in Europe would help Celtic’s chances in the Europa League, but could also continue the momentum to a real return to form ahead of Sunday’s League Cup Final.

23/11/2018 : HAMILTON ACADEMICAL V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SATURDAY, 24th NOVEMBER 2018
A win will not be academic.
HAMILTON ACADEMICAL V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY, 24th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Brendan Rodgers Bhoys will be happy to get back to league business after an international break which has been mercifully injury free for most, and has even seen Broony, Griff and even… Nir Bitton return to training in a welcome boost to an in-form squad. There will be doubts over Tierney and Gordon, injured before the Scotland games which saw stellar performances by a number of their team mates, and Rogic who sat out the second Australia game, and others may be rested as the surface is once more not grass.
Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that there will be continued Forrest fire, and that McGregor and Christie continue their excellent form, and that Celtic cement their place at the top of the table.
Of course some of you may be required to do some shopping at the weekend, so with that in mind… https://twitter.com/i/status/1065900537714012160

Here we go again…
LIVINGSTON V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY, 11th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF 13H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Sunday lunchtime kickoff for Celtic back in the SPFL might see a few of Thursday night’s heroes rested, and it seems unlikely Simunovic or Rogic will play thanks to recent knee injuries, as Brendan Rodgers is not a fan of the Livingston pitch.
Livi have managed some decent results since their return to the SPFL, and although Celtic managed a comfortable win in August, new manager Gary Holt has managed to organise the team, but after thrashing Dundee they have lost the last two games by a single goal.
Celtic players like Lewis Morgan, Scott Sinclair and Ryan Christie will be looking to make the most of their first team game time and form, and hopefully another comfortable match for the Bhoys, if not for their knees.

Celtic "can't afford to be timid" against RB Leipzig...
CELTIC V RB LEIPZIG, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 8th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF 21H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic need a result to have hope of progressing in the Europa League after a disappointing run, particularly away from home, but it’s an evening kick off, Celtic Park, and they’re putting the ‘Big Light’ on for the first time.
Brendan Rodgers has expressed the need for the team to be aggressive, and while it’s still worrying that we’re missing Broony, Griffiths and possibly still Ntcham, those who have come in have impressed, with Christie and Sinclair rediscovering form at exactly the right time, and Calum McGregor seemingly able to play just about any role and with an eye for a forward pass. We looked unlikely to get anywhere near the goal in the last game, but against Hearts and Hibs we’ve looked precisely the opposite, but seem to have found our best backline. It will be tested properly tomorrow night.
Late kick off, and see you in the Michael Collins.

A rare sight – Celtic at home on Saturday at 3pm…
CELTIC V HEARTS, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY, 3rd NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF 15H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back in the zone of Saturday afternoon football, after a week in which they scored 8 goals. Back-to-back wins would see them come within 3 points of the current league leaders. After last week’s comprehensive victory, Brendan’s Bhoys are looking more like themselves again, and the makeshift midfield of McGregor, Rogic and Christie very forward focussed. Kouassi and Brown will still be out, but Hearts have bigger injury worries of their own, and have to play on a surface they are less used to: grass. Brendan Rodgers mentioned how the pitch is in excellent condition in today’s press conference, presumably a subtle dig at Craig Levein.
The match will be shown in the Michael Collins, and we should have some visiting supporters.

Here we go again…
DUNDEE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, WEDNESDAY, 31th OCTOBER
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After some more promising recent results domestically, Celtic embark on another trip, to Dundee to play the bottom of the table club. Dundee are unlikely to have high hopes of adding to their 3 points or even 5 goals in tonight’s match, having shipped 7 goals since their new manager Jim McIntyre stepped in to fill the tiny boots of Neil McCann, whose managerial generosity saw Celtic pick up Jack Hendry and Scott Bain last season. Both those players may be back on the bench again, and of their other former players, Leigh Griffiths is rated unlikely, and the other former Dundee old boy in the squad rated as forgotten: answers on a postcard…
The game may provide an opportunity for some further appearances for man of the match from Sunday, Ryan Christie, and for other peripheral players to get a chance, perhaps even Eboue Kouassi, if he has recovered from the dodgy tackle, or his tackle being covered dodgily, on Sunday. The game is on BT Sport 2, so will be screened in the Michael Collins.
Apologies for the non-appearance of the league cup semi-final update, lost in the mists of the electric interweb. Normal service has been restored.

Let’s hope Red Bull doesn’t give you wings…
RB LEIPZIG V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 25th OCTOBER
KICK-OFF 18H55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are already on their way to play the former SSV Markranstadt who have invested over £200m in the team in the past few years. They will be mindful that it’s not an energy drink but cold hard cash that has propelled their reinvention. Leipzig have taken some notable scalps in the past few years, beating Monaco, Zenit St Petersburg and Napoli.
Brendan Rodgers will be unhappy that he will be missing influential skipper Broony, but heartened by recent goal scoring displays from the team, and from a return to form from Rogic, Edouard and Forrest, although the latter is suspended for his red card that approximately three people thought was merited in the last round. That may present opportunities for other players, and it will doubtless be a tough match, but worthy of our support just the same.
Early kick off, and see you in the Michael Collins.

ST JOHNSTONE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY 7th OCTOBER
KICK-OFF 16H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are off to Perth on their travels in another quickfire follow-up to European action, after a disappointing defeat on Sunday. They will need to get their heads up, but look to be without Broony as inspiration once again.
It’s likely Brendan Rodgers will welcome the international break to get his skipper fit again, and to work some more with newer players like Morgan, Mulumbu and Benkovic and get them more first team time, but will freshen up the side after a long trip to Austria, and will be grateful the St Johnstone side don’t have any sponsors to give them wings.

We’re on the road again…
RB SALZBURG V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 4th SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 18H55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are off on their travels to Austria, presumably keen to participate in the Austrian presidency of the EU, but first the small matter of a football match first. Salzburg represent a formidable challenge, topping the group after winning away to their Red Bull twins Leipzig in Germany, and hitting 10 goals in the last two games. They will be the clear favourites, but that may actually suit the Bhoys having seen several buses parked in front of them in recent games.
The team news suggests French Eddy is ready, Leigh is scoring again, much to the concern of Glasgow maternity wards, and just like every other European match, we can’t pick our first choice central defence, with Kristoffer Ajer injured once more. Brendan Rodgers is clear in his aspirations: “We must ensure that when we do have the ball, we’re dangerous with it.”
It’s a European night, and we don’t get many, so good to see as many of you as possible for an early kick-off.

Crisis? What crisis?
ST JOHNSTONE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINAL, WEDNESDAY 26th SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
It’s been a troubling week for Brendan Rodgers. Poor performances, needless speculation over a dressing room split, and suggestions that Celtic supporters ‘should be alarmed’ after their poor start to the season, but as one journalist who has covered Celtic for 20 years wrote today: “if you think Celtic are in crisis you should have been around 20 years ago” https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/16903533.neil-cameron-if-you-think-celtic-are-in-crisis-you-should-have-been-around-20-years-ago/?ref=ebls
Nevertheless, Brendan has to put it right, or we may find ourselves dropping the current epithet of ‘holder’ across three competitions. Changes are likely to be made once more to find new energy, and a reaction will have to come from one of the two teams playing, with St Johnstone crashing 5-1 at the weekend to Aberdeen’s closest rivals for 2nd place.
Hope many of you can make it as it will be live on TV.

Celtic back to the SPFL action and needing to find an attacking threat.
KILMARNOCK V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back to league action against one of their trickier opponents from last season at Rugby Park. The Bhoys have found goals hard to come by of late, and the fact they will be starting a match 61 hours after they finished the last one may mean changes made to the starting lineup. Many, none less so than Leigh Griffiths himself, will believe a claim has been staked for a starting place. In the words of Tom English: "some [knocks] have to do with the failings in his whirling dervish personality, but Griffiths has a human sponge capacity to soak everything up and still deliver."
Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the team lack form: " "We haven't been as dynamic as we have been in the last couple of years. It might be a season for us like that, but we will always find a way and try to find a solution to perform well because performing, for me, is very, very important."
Let's hope we get back to performing well and that we can get back towards the top of the SPFL where we belong.

20/09/2018 : CELTIC V ROSENBORG (EUROPA LEAGUE) THURSDAY, 20 SEPTEMBER 2018
Celtic face Rosenborg again faster than you can say ‘déjà vu’.
CELTIC V ROSENBORG, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP B, THURSDAY, 20th SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 21H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Here we go again - with Rosenborg, who are undefeated in the 11 games since we last played them. Celtic are likely to be without Kristoffer Ajer who has a virus, and Jozo Simunovic is still injured, so Jack Hendry or Mikael Lustig may deputise, and the usual selection questions will take place in attack where we have struggled of late.
Whether Brendan Rodgers has phoned Ronny Deila for advice on the match is open to speculation, but our opponents are certainly not unfamiliar, so just a question of who Brendan will select to do the job. A repeat of the 3-1 scoreline from 57 days ago would be fine for most fans.
One other piece of sadder news to circulate to all our members is that one of our long-standing members, Richard Northcote, died in Brussels very suddenly over the summer, and we only recently became aware of this. Richard had not been around much recently because of business commitments but for a long time was a regular attender both in the bar and on away trips to European games. Those who knew Richard remember him as a very pleasant Bhoy, very Celtic knowledgeable - always happy to chat about things Celtic and taking an optimistic view when things were not going so well on the pitch.
His funeral was in Scotland in July but his family are organising a memorial on Saturday next at 12 noon in St. Anthony's Church, Oudstrijderslaan 23, Kraainem for any of those in the CSC who would like to attend.

13/09/2018 : ST MIRREN V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) FRIDAY, 14 SEPTEMBER 2018
The SPFL is back!
ST MIRREN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, FRIDAY 14th SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Brendan Rodgers makes his first trip to sunny Renfewshire as Celtic play their first Friday night game of the season. Most of the players returned from international week free of injury, and a chance for Brendan to look at a few players in training while their teammates were away. The starting lineup may offer the opportunity to field some of those new faces, with Filip Benkovic the most likely candidate for game time.
A busy time for the Bhoys and for my keyboard now looms with seven games inside four weeks, so some squad rotation looks both likely and necessary. Lewis Morgan is nearing full fitness and back in training, while Tom Rogic was left out of the Australia squad to recover from a knee injury. It will be an interesting tie, after the buddies jettisoned Alan Stubbs faster than the Compliance Officer rejecting a Rangers case, so Oran Kearney will take charge of his first game.

01/09/2018 : CELTIC V THE RANGERS (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SUNDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER 2018
Celtic facing their first major league challenge of the season.
CELTIC V THE RANGERS, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SUNDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF 13H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic face a major opponent for the first time this season, after a tumultuous period which has seen some sections of the media label Glasgow new boys The Rangers as serious title contenders after they managed not to lose against European giants UFA and some competent performances against other teams we’d barely heard of.
That said, the transfer season hasn’t been so successful for Celtic, with their hand forced into selling what many would consider their prize asset in Moussa Dembélé at the very end of the transfer window. They will have Edouard back and available to play, however, meaning that Celtic will have the same personnel available that played in the 5-0 win last season. It probably will come too early for the 3 new signings completed on Friday, but the squad is otherwise mostly intact from last season.
On personnel, The Rangers haven’t held back on spending money HMRC will never see, but yet to be tested against this Celtic team who found the gears in the 3-0 win against Suduva and now progress to Europa League qualifying against the Red Bull twins and a team called Rosenburg we’ve seen before somewhere. Let’s hope for more ball retention with more incisiveness tomorrow.

22/08/2018 : SUDOVA V CELTIC , EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFIER, THURSDAY, 23 AUGUST 2018
Last chance to salvage our European Campaign, starting away from home in Lithuania.
SUDOVA V CELTIC , EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFYING PLAYOFF, THURSDAY 23rd AUGUST
KICK-OFF 19H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After resting a few players for the league cup match, Brendan Rodgers will have a few choices to make for the starting lineup in Lithuania. The match will come too soon for ‘French Eddy’ and Lewis Morgan. Moussa Dembélé and more controversially Dedryck Boyata may play some part in the match, with Moussa marking his return with a goal at the weekend in the League Cup game, and we could even see a debut for Daniel Arzani, and suggestions Christian Gamboa has done enough to deserve a start.
After the weekend match, Brendan Rodgers remarked more on the need for the Bhoys to return to their trademark style of play: "Our pressing was too passive and our identity is very much around aggression and intensity in our press and we were nowhere near that. It's been a brilliant couple of seasons here and we can still have that this season. But on the back of a long week, it's something that can prey on the players' mind but this [Glasgow derby win] will be good for their confidence."
Suduva may be unfamiliar opponents, but the helpful Celtic TV has recalled a previous win against them: https://www.facebook.com/CelticFC/videos/296392607823920/. Hopefully we can put disappointment behind us and progress in Europe once more.

18/08/2018 : PARTICK THISTLE V CELTIC , SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP, 2nd ROUND, SATURDAY, 18 AUGUST 2018
Celtic look to bounce back from a disappointing 10 days, and need to ‘get back on the horse’.
PARTICK THISTLE V CELTIC , SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP SECOND ROUND, SATURDAY 18th AUGUST
KICK-OFF 13H30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic need to get their concentration levels back after a deeply disappointing midweek where the main talking point was probably not about who was on the pitch, but who wasn’t. It’s still summer and the transfer window is still open, so the next few weeks will be interesting in terms of personnel changes. On the park, there is still a job to do, and perhaps it is apt that despite the Jags’ relegation, there is still the chance to play the Glasgow derby, with 23 years since it was last won by Partick Thistle. They may be looking to catch Celtic colder than the moment Dedryck Boyata next wasl into the dressing room at Celtic Park, but the team will be ready, and hopefully some sharpness will be restored in attack.
Callum McGregor, one of the standouts in the past few weeks, urged the team to come together: 'We have had a lot of success over the last couple of years, it is a new test for the boys and the management team and the fans as well. They are so used to success and once you get two bad results in a week, the players know they are up against it and we have to come out fighting and show we are good players and why we have been successful.’
'This is a time for the club to stick together. We have lost two games in a row and we need to get back on the horse’

14/08/2018 : AEK ATHENS V CELTIC (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIER) TUESDAY, 14 AUGUST 2018
Celtic already face their first main major test of the season, with AEK Athens ready to park the bus in front of our Champions League hopes again.
AEK ATHENS V CELTIC, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND, TUESDAY, 14st AUGUST
KICK-OFF 20H00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After two disappointing performances and results, Brendan Rodgers will hope that Celtic travel well to Athens for the 2nd leg of the qualifying round, in what is likely to be our hardest test so far in qualifying. We have seen returning players from the first team squad, but questions still being asked of our formation and first XI for this match, so Brendan will be glad to ignore off-field talk by players, pundits and especially agents and try to force Athens out and create chances. In that regard, the timing could be perfect for Moussa Dembélé to the starting lineup, having travelled with the squad.
AEK Athens have predictably indicated that it will not be easy in Athens, but after a ‘taps-aff’ summer, Celtic should be used to playing in 28 degrees heat, and Brendan Rodgers thinks the Bhoys have the quality to progress: ““I always felt we would have to go over there and score anyway, so it is very much still I the balance. It swings a bit to them because they’re at home, but we certainly know we have the quality to go and perform. I think everyone was thinking the same thing at this stage last year, going out to Rosenborg and wondering if we could get a result knowing it was going to be tough out there, but we went there and produced a really good performance and won the game. I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that again here.”

04/05/2018 : HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SATURDAY, 11 AUGUST 2018
Celtic will be looking to kick ideas that Hearts can get one over them again into the long grass…
HEARTS V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY 11th AUGUST
KICK-OFF 13H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The Bhoys will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing result and performance in midweek, and show that they can break down defences, even if they have to wear wellies, following a ‘war of words’ (exclusive to all badly written tabloids) between Craig Levein and Brendan Rogers, with Brendan anticipating the grass to be longer on this occasion following the SPFL refusal to intervene on pitches resembling rainforests.
There may be some squad changes as while every football team talks about taking it ‘one game at a time’, as according to Brendan, with regard to the return in Athens next Tuesday (at 20:00 – also live in the Michael Collins) “We have to consider heat and everything out there. We have to look at the squad and look at the players that are robust and need to come out with Tuesday in mind, but we’ll always pick a team to get a result.”
Both teams have relatively full squads to choose from – Dedryck Boyata or possibly Moussa Dembélé may feature, but too soon for recent (at this point officially unconfirmed) signings Emilio Izaguirre or Daniel Arzani. Hearts may have Kyle ‘Timebomb’ Lafferty back in their time, in a match likely to be a feisty affair, but which we’ll be hoping ends Hearts’ brief sojourn at the top of the league.

08/08/2018 : CELTIC V AEK ATHENS (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIER) WEDNESDAY, 8 AUGUST 2018
Celtic will be looking to progress once more in the Champions League and build a lead ahead of their visit to Athens in one week.
CELTIC V AEK ATHENS, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND, WEDNESDAY, 8st AUGUST
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The match will be available through subscription TV, as we experienced for the Rosenborg game last week.
The starting lineup is likely to include some more returnees, after Lustig, Simunovic and Rogic started at the weekend, and it looks as if Ntcham and Tierney will have shaken off knocks in time to play. Leigh Griffiths is also available, but Dedryck Boyata may not yet be risked, with the transfer rumour mill suggesting Fulham and Lazio are circling with bids.
We will face opponents who will be playing their first competitive match of the season, although not to be taken lightly, as they managed to defeat Galatasaray 3-2 in their last warm-up. Since winning the league, they have lost their manager Manolo Jimenez and his assistant, and a number of key and experienced players, including Lazaros Christodoulopoulos controversially joining Olympiakos and the case ending up in court. As with any team, they have tried to replace the key departures, and will pose an attacking threat, and may line up with their three entertainingly named new Latin American ‘stars’, Boye, Ponce and Alef.
Please note that for the match we will be joined by a small contingent of AEK Athens fans who asked to come and have a beer with us. We have made certain that they will be well behaved, and will be buying the beer, even giving their own reference to their club in Brussels: https://www.facebook.com/AEK-Belgium-Supporters-1341946709152084/?ref=bookmarks

01/08/2018 : ROSENBORG V CELTIC (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIER) WEDNESDAY, 1 AUGUST 2018
Celtic will be looking to complete the job tomorrow night back in Trondheim, following their 3-1 win at home.
ROSENBORG V CELTIC, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND, WEDNESDAY, 1st AUGUST
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The TV match will definitely be on (Premier Sports) after the policy of home legs not being made available to commercial channels saw many of us sitting round phones two weeks ago watching the match.
The same XI may be entrusted to finish the job that started just before half-time in the home leg. Rosenberg can pose a threat, but most will expect Celtic to be capable of also scoring if they can show up the same way they did in the 2nd half at Celtic Park. Moussa Dembélé and Leigh Griffiths are unlikely to feature, and Šimonuvić will not feature, as Celtic had concerns that UEFA may still have one category of ban left after they upgraded his debatable red card to a harsh red card and one extra match out.
Possible additions may be Mikael Lustig or even Dedryck Boyata as they rejoined training, along with Armstrong Okoflex, apparently a 16-year-old addition to our squad and not a training regime. Whatever the team, we’ll be backing them to finish the job and get us into the next round to face AEK Athens next week.

17/07/2018 : CELTIC V ALASHKERT (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIER) WEDNESDAY, 18 JULY 2018
The Bhoys are back in town!
Celtic kick-off their season at Celtic Park with the 2nd leg against Alashkert tomorrow night back at Celtic Park, following a straightforward 3-0 away win in Armenia.
CELTIC V ALASHKERT, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND, WEDNESDAY, 18th JULY
KICK-OFF 20H45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The talking points may not just be the selection and formation for the home leg, but also the effect of the new pitch on the team, which saw fast attacking football being played at the weekend in the 4-1 win over Standard Liège. Brendan Rogers favoured using both our new permanent signing ‘French Eddy’ and Moussa Dembélé in that match as in the away leg, and we can expect to see both featuring again, perhaps with Lewis Morgan making his formal Celtic Park bow. Craig Gordon was an injury worry, but Scott Bain stands by to deputise, having also signed a permanent deal in the summer following an impressive loan spell as Craig’s backup.
Much of the talk around Celtic has been activity off the park, but we may get to see some of the benefit of the £1.3m investment on the new hybrid pitch itself, and maybe even some of the £2.3m outlay on the state of the art lighting and sounds system, seemingly set to turn the stadium into a venue to rival the Allianz Arena, due to be completed by the end of the summer.
Whatever happens off the park, the focus will be on the activity on the park, against a team who are no pushover as Brendan Rodgers highlighted “This is the best team we have played in the first round in my three years of qualifying campaigns. They have very fast, technical players, and it was important that we stayed focused.” Celtic should safely navigate their passage to the 2nd Qualify Round to face the winners of Rosenberg v Valur (0-1) with that match kicking off an hour earlier. Then only two more rounds (two legs) through the Champions Path will see them enter the Champions League proper.
