08/03/2025 : CELTIC V HIBERNIAN (SCOTTISH CUP QUARTER FINAL) SUNDAY 9th MARCH 2025

The top two teams in Scotland go head to head...
CELTIC V HIBERNIAN , SCOTTISH CUP QUARTER FINAL, SUNDAY 9th MARCH - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
It’s cup time, and the top two form teams in Scotland go head to head for a place in the semi final. Hibs managed to go two ahead at Easter Road before Celtic responded a couple of weeks ago, and both teams will look to capitalise on their good form. James Forrest is close to a return, but faces a wait with in-form wide men in front of him.
Very last reminder – MAY 17/18 2025: the Brussels CSC will revive the tradition of a trophy day visit to Celtic Park once the fixture is confirmed. Let me know if you wish to join us.
All matches are on in the Wild Rover, where they fly the Celtic flag.
Hail! Hail!

28/02/2025 : ST MIRREN V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SATURDAY 1st MARCH 2025

Where are we going?...
ST MIRREN V CELTIC , SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY 1st MARCH - KICK-OFF @ 18:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re off to St Mirren Park, or possibly the Paisley 2021 Stadium, the Simple Digital Arena or the SMISA Stadium (for the St Mirren Independent Supporters Association) for our next Premiership. In any case, give our regards to Love Street as we’re getting off at Paisley for a tricky away fixture at times, although St Mirren’s recent away exploits have caught the eye more.
Celtic have only lost one of their last 20 away games at St. Mirren across all competitions, the last loss under Ange in 2022, but St Mirren sit in 7th place looking to leapfrog Hearts, who they lost 3-1 to in midweek. The Bhoys come off the back of a loss last weekend away but a resounding home win with some regulars reintroduced to the team. Therefore ,expect Brendan not to change too much until three more points are secured, with big games coming up. No new injuries, with Forrest and Taylor potentially back in the squad, and Bernardo expected to continue to be absent.
As ever, all matches are on in the Wild Rover, where they fly the Celtic flag.

Fighting on the home front...
HIBERNIAN V CELTIC , SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY 15th FEBRUARY - KICK-OFF @ 13:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
After the heroics (not disappointment) of midweek, we’re back to league action as we look to bring league title 55 over the line. We have the lunchtime match and perhaps some squad rotation after midweek efforts. We know Jamesy Forrest has resumed training, and a few weeks more for Bernardo. We’ve won home and away four times this season, but the Hibees have been improving, with 3 draws and 2 wins in the last five.
As ever, all matches are on in the Wild Rover, where they fly the Celtic flag.

It’s a knockout...
BAYERN MUNICH V CELTIC, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, KNOCKOUT ROUND PLAY-OFFS,
TUESDAY 11th FEBRUARY - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
So we go back to Munich after a tough first tie at home, which ended upbeat with a goal and an improved performance. Now time to be bold...
There are expected to be changes, and the big news may be a Kane injury. Expect Brendan to try to be bold, and a start for Schlupp may be on the cards too after impressive showings and combative qualities. Jota is getting sharper, but Idah may be asked to start the hold up. A big night for the Bhoys.

Back to the day job...
CELTIC V DUNDEE UNITED , SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY, 15th FEBRUARY - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We welcome Dundee United to Celtic Park on Saturday, where we have an unconventional (but screened) game against 3rd placed Dundee United. The Arabs only have 1 win in 5 league games, but Brendan Rodgers may shuffle the pack with one eye on the second leg of the Champion’s Leage match in Munich. No major injury worries, but perhaps some more of the same as convincingly put Raith Rovers to the sword a week ago.
We’ll also be starting to look to confirm numbers for our end of season trip to Celtic Park in the coming days – these emails have a ‘reply’ option 😉or WhatsApp is an option.

Bayern time...
CELTIC V BAYERN MUNICH, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, KNOCKOUT ROUND PLAY-OFFS,
WEDNESDAY 11th FEBRUARY - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re in the knockout stages of the Champions League, and welcome German big guns Bayern Munich to Celtic Park for the 1st leg of the two-round playoff on Wednesday night.
The big team news is that Daizen Maeda is cleared to play, and joins a revised squad including Jota, Schlupp and Dane Murray. We’re still missing Forrest, but Brendan Rodgers will need to decide which 3 from 4 make up his wing and attack lineup, as Celtic seek their first ever Champions League victory, although at east they will have the player who last scored in CalMac leading the team out.
Bayern unfortunately don’t appear to have any major concerns with only left back Alphonso Davies missing from a squad packed with old (Neuer and Muller) and new (Musiala and Kimmich) names to name a few, never mind Kane. A tough night, but a big night looking for big performance under the lights.

CELTIC V RAITH ROVERS, SCOTTISH CUP 5th ROUND, SATURDAY, 8th FEBRUARY - KICK-OFF @ 18:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Our visitors for the Scottish Cup 5th round tie from Kirkcaldy are the team currently in 7th place in the Championship, Raith Rovers. Raith are missing a few players, but may field on-loan St Johnstone goalkeeper Josh Rae. Now managed by former Celt Barry Robson, who has managed two wins since arriving in December, including the upset of beating Falkirk in the previous cup round.
There may be roles for new additions / returnees Jota, Schlupp and Jonny Kenny, while perhaps game time for others such as Bernardo and McCowan with Celtic only having Forrest still missing.
One other notice - MAY 17/18 2025: the Brussels CSC will revive the tradition of a trophy day visit to Celtic Park once the fixture is confirmed. More details to follow.

Back to league action again on Wednesday night at Celtic Park, after much mongering of rumours resulted in Jeffrey Schlupp replacing the departed Alex Valle, and no new striker to replace Kyogo.

Sunday afternoon game after the midweek excitement in Birmingham, in equally exciting Motherwell, where Jota returns to at least the bench for the Bhoys. Déjà vu all over again...
CELTIC V DUNDEE V , SPFL, SATURDAY, 25th JANUARY - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Celtic are at home once more in the league, with the same opponents who managed to hold them to a draw in the last Premiership match, Dundee. Celtic will have to ring the changes, as it looks increasingly likely that Storm Eowyn will not hold up the departure of Kyogo to Stade Rennes in the ‘big league’ of French football. Incoming will be the return of Jota, if all matters can be concluded, but unlikely to be in time for the squad to face Dundee.
Other than that, Forrest remains out, and Brendan will be expecting to add another striker to his squad, and to confirm when, not if, Tierney will also return. We will miss Kyogo, but we carry on with progression to at least the playoffs of the Champion’s Leage secured, and a 13 point lead in the league.

Young Boys, old foes...
CELTIC V YOUNG BOYS, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, WEDNESDAY 22nd JANUARY - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Celtic welcome Young Boys to Celtic Park tonight, where our Swiss visitors last visited in 1993, with a Bhoys lineup that included the old boys of McAvennie and Nicholas starting from the bench. Young Boys are bottom of the 36-team Champions Leage table and are winless in all six of their games, conceding 22 goals in that run.
Celtic will be looking to secure 3 points and a big opportunity to progress, with Forrest the only continuing casualty after the successful returns of Kuhn and Maeda. There will be questions over which midfield options to choose, but Kyogo looks best placed to start up front. Young Boys opted to sub in a 22-year-old in goal domestically, and have former Ranger Cedric Itten likely to start up front.
Brendan Rodgers will certainly be hoping for a controlled, attacking game and that the stadium will be rocking.

On the road again...
DUNDEE V CELTIC, SPFL, TUESDAY, 14th JANUARY - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re off to ‘bonnie’ Dundee, hoping for less glacial conditions at Den’s Park (the Scot Foam Stadium), where Tony Docherty’s team have managing some positive displays and results of late. There are a few absentees likely from the squad, where forwards and wide men are the most obvious, Maeda, Forrest and Palma likely to miss out although Kuhn may return. Our opponents won’t be strangers, as we play them back to back in the league, sandwiching the Scottish Cup fourth round v Kilmarnock on Saturday evening, and the Champions League group stage against Young Boys next Wednesday night as the next two - very welcome - home games.
A tricky run to negotiate, but results and performances have adapted to the conditions.

Back home...
CELTIC V ST MIRREN , SPFL, SUNDAY 5th JANUARY - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
So we’re back home in the Wild Rover again for a weekend match, and so are Celtic without 51,065 baying for, and occasionally getting, blood. Three points dropped will be a concern in a league race the Bhoys seemed to be romping, especially to the team currently in 2nd place, but plenty can change in a season, a week or a match.
Brendan will look to shuffle the pack after some uncharacteristically low par performances, but St Mirren are no easy chance, so improvement will be needed.

CELTIC V RANGERS , SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP FINAL, SUNDAY 15th DECEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 16:30

We go again, and the League Cup Final gives us the opportunity to collect our first silverware of the season, and against the ‘resurgent’ Rangers, although that adjective mostly applied to European games where they had a creditable result against Spurs B managed by Postecoglou.
Celtic, by contrast, will be rightly disappointed in not taking more from the Champions League, but once more have a full squad to pick from.

Broken Dinamo?
DINAMO ZAGREB V CELTIC, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, TUESDAY 10th DECEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 18:45
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Dinamo Zagreb are our next opponents as the Bhoys head to Zagreb with another few results in the bag, and sitting 9 points clear in the domestic league. Dinamo have struggled with injuries, and a few key players including Arijan Ademi and Bruno Petkovic set to miss out on the match. Keeper Ivan Nevistic made the squad for their weekend draw, but results and injuries have not gone the way of the Croats, sitting 3 places behind Celtic in the league.
Brendan Rogers has a full squad to pick from, and team rotation has seen Carter Vickers and Kyogo rested, although the latter came on to great effect, with the ability to also spare others through substitutions. This may be as big an opportunity as there is to pick up points on the road.

“Celtic could find a raucous Pittodrie tough to play at”...
ABERDEEN V CELTIC, SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, WEDNESDAY 4th DECEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
The prediction of Leigh Clarkson for tonight’s match at Pittodrie may be difficult to believe for anyone who’s ever been there, but 2nd placed Aberdeen may still believe they can achieve something with the backing of their home crowd, seagulls and the North Sea wind.
The Bhoys will go with confidence and a team Brendan already had in mind for the midweek top of the table clash, but it may feature many of those who played in the 6-0 thrashing a month ago, notably Daizen Maeda who recorded a hattrick, but perhaps Luke McCowan may force his way into the starting lineup after a hattrick of assists and a goal.
A victory can push us 7 points clear in the league.

CELTIC V CLUB BRUGGE, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, WEDNESDAY 27th NOVEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 21:00

We’ll be confident after the Leipzig win, but Brugge recorded a 7-0 win at the weekend, and have their own danger man in Vanaken and having managed a fortunate win against Aston Villa. Great fun the be had in the Belgian media and streets if we can continue our performance, with a fully fit squad once again.

Hail! Hail!

22/11/2024 : HEARTS V CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SATURDAY 23rd NOVEMBER 2024

“We want more and that is our focus”...
HEARTS V CELTIC , SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP, SATURDAY 23rd NOVEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 20:45
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re back after the international break, and no injury reports despite 13 players returning from international duty, but some encouraging performances from Engels and Bernardo will help confidence, while Scales managed a magnificent tackle and even got some time off in the second half against England.
Of course the big news and the quote above are about Alistair Johnston, who has signed an extension to 2029 with the club, securing his talents and workrate for the team. We’ll be playing Hearts who have a new coach in Neil Critchley, who had had a win to take them off the bottom of the table. He will still need to prove he can get a lot out of very little, or as he’s better known, Lawrence Shankland.
Important match in another big week for the Bhoys, with some passionate and noisy Belgians about to head to Celtic Park for the Champions League match, and they’ll be joined by Club Brugge fans.
Hail! Hail!

02/11/2024 : CELTIC V ABERDEEN (SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL) SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2024

Up against the mighty sheep…
CELTIC V ABERDEEN, SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL, SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 18:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Celtic are at Hampden this afternoon, facing Aberdeen who are the only other unbeaten team in Scotland this season, and who showed spirit and studs to earn a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park a few weeks ago. Their midweek win will have buoyed them, but we’re Bhoyed by the return of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Calum McGregor and Adam Idah.
Form will make this a nervy watch, but defence is the area which has improved greatly recently, and goals seem to be available across the squad. A win today and we’re in our first final of the year.

Back on nights...
CELTIC V DUNDEE , SPFL, WEDNESDAY, 30th OCTOBER - KICK-OFF @ 20:45
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We're back to Celtic Park for tonight's game, which may once again provide some squad game time. CCV and Taylor started on the bench, while Johnston was strong Captain.
Dundee are struggling and may not welcome scoring talisman McCowan in the opposition colours. A good chance to score points with 2nd v 3rd playing at Pittodrie.

Another tough away trip…
ATALANTA BERGAMO V CELTIC, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, WEDNESDAY 23rd OCTOBER - KICK-OFF @ 18:45
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Our third match of the League Stage, and the massive swinging pendulum should hopefully be less dramatic, or at least less dramatically against us after a huge win and a bigger loss. We’re away in Italy to a team that also scores big and concedes big, and who will cause us all to take a deep breath.
Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to change his philosophy, even without the injured CCV, so we cross everything and hope this is where we see a new European Celtic.
We’re in the Wild Rover for all the European nights!

Changing the tune?
BORUSSIA DORTMUND V CELTIC, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, TUESDAY 1st OCTOBER - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re in a different league now, literally rather than the figurative version of it we saw on Saturday evening, but the Bhoys head to Dortmund with some confidence that we can take our game to the next level. We’ll certainly be hoping for a new tune on the road having never won away from home against a German side. Injury will mean Cameron Carter-Vickers won’t be available, so the Bhoys will need a top performance.
Dortmund are a big team with young talents including their latest English find Jamie Gittens, but coach Nuri Sahin has also changed his tune on the influence Brendan Rodgers had on his career, having once criticised him for playing him out of position at Liverpool, calling him tactically very strong, and praising the ‘very smart’ Kyogo. This will be a big test with good players for this Celtic Team.
We go again in the Wild Rover!

Levein leaving, Leven in?
ST JOHNSTONE V CELTIC , SPFL, SATURDAY 28th SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 18:45
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Off to Perth we go, and to currently managerless St. Johnstone. Andy Kirk took over for the 3-3 draw against Ross County. Brendan will take a side looking for another win, but ahead of the Champions League encounter, may wish to continue with some fringe men who gained pass marks against Falkirk, notably Trusty, Bernardo and Idah. Johnston and Carter-Vickers are the most likely to be rested.
A late kick off may not suit Brendan, but does suit the cameras, so we’re on again in the Wild Rover.

Already?
CELTIC V FALKIRK, SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP, QUARTER FINAL, SUNDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re back in League Cup action on Sunday, after a thrilling midweek performance and response in the Champions League. Brendan may see this as an opportunity for game time for some of the squad, notably McCowan, Trusty and Idah. A win will still be the aim and expectation, and progression to the semi finals in early November.
Falkirk are not to be taken lightly. They have won eight of their past nine outings and lead the Championship, with some real talent including Dylan Tait and former Celt Calvin Miller in their ranks.
We’re on, as we will be for every match, through any mechanism possible (last Saturday it was Hearts TV) in the Wild Rover.

18/09/2024 : CELTIC V SLOVAN BRATISLAVA (CHAMP. LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE) WEDNESDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2024

European nights are back…
CELTIC V SLOVAN BRATISLAVA, UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, LEAGUE STAGE, WEDNESDAY 18th SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 21:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
It’s been a while, but nobody wants the qualifiers, least of all tonight’s opponents, Slovan Bratislava. The Slovaks make their way to our opening match of the Champions League campaign after their own four qualification matches, beating Midjtylland to make it to this stage. They are top of the Fortuna Leage in Slovakia but managed a 5-0 loss to 2nd placed MSK Zilna before the international break. They have some players who’ve been seen on bigger stages, and many Celtic fans will remember both Wladimir Weiss Sr. (Artmedia manager in 2005) and Jr, wo played for a former Glasgow club before their liquidation. He’s still playing at 34 and joined by Armenia international Tigran Barseghyan up front and Gurma Kashia of the impressive Georgians in defence.
The Slovakians will be regarded as underdogs, which may not help keep nerves calm, but the preseason and new season form of Brendan Rodgers’ team should help allay fears. No fitness concerns to note, and with new signings playing and scoring at the weekend, and a high-tempo approach, this is a new and welcome test for the Bhoys.
We’re in the Wild Rover for all the European nights ahead!
Hail! Hail!

14/09/2024 : CELTIC V HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP) SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 2024

Back to domestic football…
CELTIC V HEART OF MIDLOTHIAN, SPFL, SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re back to Celtic Park for the visit of the currently 11th placed team in the league, Hearts. Something of a bogey team, who beat Celtic twice last season, current form does not suggest that they are quite the force they have been, coming off 6 consecutive losses.
Nevertheless, Brendan Rodgers will still look to continue their own form, and perhaps protect some players such as Carter-Vickers and Johnston carrying light knocks, so there may be changes in personnel with a view to Champions League games. No major fitness doubts, and Engels, McCowan and Trusty will be looking for league game time, although Bernardo may have some say after scoring in the international break.
We’re confirmed even though it’s a normal kick off with the game streamed in the Wild Rover.

CELTIC V THE RANGERS , SPFL, SUNDAY 1th SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 13:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
The words of our latest midfield signings, Luke McCowan and Arne Engels, on their first steps onto the Celtic Park as a Celtic Player and on the Glasgow Derby respectively. Neither will have had much sleep or get much time to train ahead of tomorrow’s game, but along with US centre back Auston Trusty and Alex Valle who signed earlier in the week, all 4 are likely to make the matchday squad for the visit of the Rangers team who have also dipped into the transfer market.
No other injuries to report, as the side that started the season strongly will be close to last week’s lineup, and the new signings will take the place of the departed Matt O’Riley, Tomoki Iwata and Mikey Johnston. Brendan Rodgers won’t take the game lightly ahead of the international break and the newly announced European fixtures, confirmed as follows:
Wednesday, September 18 | Celtic v Slovan Bratislava
Tuesday, October 1 | Borussia Dortmund v Celtic
Wednesday, October 23 | Atalanta v Celtic
Tuesday, November 5 | Celtic v RB Leipzig
Wednesday, November 27 | Celtic v Club Brugge
Tuesday, December 10 | Dinamo Zagreb v Celtic
Wednesday, January 22, 2025 | Celtic v Young Boys of Bern
Wednesday, January 29, 2025 | Aston Villa v Celtic

"I would look at us over the coming week to be able to do some business and it shouldn't be reliant on players going out..."
ST MIRREN V CELTIC , SPFL, SUNDAY 25th AUGUST - KICK-OFF @ 13:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
Strong words by Brendan Rodgers ahead of the visit to Paisley for our next league match against St Mirren, who have posed some problems in recent seasons, and nobody mention Tony Mowbray’s managerial stint. We’re likely to be with the Seagulls-bound Matt O’Riley, as it’s reported that Brighton & Hove Albion are breaking the Scottish transfer record to sign Celtic’s Player of the Year. New signings or a mutiny will be expected to bring us up to strength, but we have some new(ish) faces in, but later in our dealings to the frustration of many fans.
No new updates on the squad, but Kyogo will once again be available.
The game goes on, and we’ll be in our usual spot.

Lunchtime in Leith...
CELTIC V HIBERNIAN , SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP 2nd ROUND, SUNDAY 18th AUGUST - KICK-OFF @ 16:00
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re facing last week’s opponents, Hibernian, who were so roundly beaten in 2-0 going on 10 that they immediately decided to loan a player who didn’t make the squad. Kwon won’t be eligible, but the newly re-signed Adam Idah will come into contention. Brendan may go with the same lineup again, checking injuries on a few players including subbed sub Mikey Johnston.
We’ll be looking for the same again, but more goals after 19 minutes than last week to be able to give some players more game time if possible, and the Hibees ability to play 70 minutes without conceding to this Celtic team means there will be no room for complacency.
We go again!

Flag Day!
CELTIC V KILMARNOCK , SPFL, SUNDAY 4th AUGUST - KICK-OFF @ 17:30
LIVE IN THE WILD ROVER (see WHERE-page)
We’re off and running today for the new season, and in fairly upbeat mode, with a preseason that perhaps hasn’t had many incoming, but few outgoings either. Mikey Johnston has returned to the fold, and may start today, while Kasper Schmeichel slots straight in for his retired former Manchester City teammate Joe Hart, having shown he’s lost none of his edge.
A new edge was perceived in preseason for Nicholas Kuhn and Kyogo, both of whom may start, but the game may be too early for Alistair Johnston after featuring in the Copa America team of the tournament, or the returning permanently Paolo Bernardo.
It will be good to make a positive start. See you there!
