24/09/2020 : RIGA FC V CELTIC (EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFYING 3rd ROUND) THURSDAY, 24th SEPTEMBER 2020
European nights are back!
RIGA FC V CELTIC, THURSDAY, 24th SEPTEMBER - KICK-OFF @ 19:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
So now European football is back. After a few televised match clashes, we’re confirmed for the Michael Collins.
The squad has been in Latvia for a few days, and almost complete, although big Cris Jullien won’t make it, and Mikey Johnston continues his recovery. Odsonne Edouard is ‘raring to go’ after being rested at the weekend, and Lenny will be looking for full focus against a team who managed to beat FC Copenhagen 1-0 at home last year before losing the away leg.
At least we now have some new goal threat options, including the previously rarely explored option of using set pieces.
Hopefully this will be the start of a few Autumn European nights.
Hail! Hail!

01/08/2020 : CELTIC V HAMILTON (SPFL) SUNDAY, 2nd AUGUST 2020
WE'RE BACK !
So it’s been a while, but proper football is back, and it starts tomorrow. We’re confirmed for the Michael Collins, and look forward to seeing you again.
CELTIC V HAMILTON, SPFL, SUNDAY, 2nd AUGUST - KICK-OFF @ 17:30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Anyway, football… The big news for Celtic is that there are no big changes. Fraser Forster has decided to look for other options, so we have Greece international goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas installed as our new number one, and likely to start. Moy Elyounoussi has signed on once more, and we’ve lost fringe players and some fine servants, notably Jonny Hayes, but pre-season has seen some of the younger players state their case for a chance to shine in a series of matches where up to 5 subs may be used.
So what’s happening for us? – we’ll look to have get-together in September, for an AGM and a check on our activities for 2021. We will look to travel to Celtic Park, having had to shelve plans due to COVID-19, and this email will become a weekly update rather than match-by-match, as the games will come thick and fast.
The other aspect is that so I can indicate to the Michael Collins when we’ll be in attendance, and how many will be there, a small request on my part. Please indicate if you will attend the upcoming match. This allows me to reserve appropriate space for the game, which was occasionally an issue when we had very few attending.
Hope we can get the support going for a massive season, and that as many as possible can see the flag unfurl for 9 in a row, as we go for 10.
Hail! Hail!

18/05/2020 : CELTIC - OUR WAY, OUR NINE, OUR TIME
CELTIC SEAL NINTH LEAGUE TITLE IN A ROW !
Hello Bhoys and Ghirls of the Brussels CSC...
It’s official. Celtic are champions of Scotland for the ninth time in succession and the 51st time in total. It might have been rubber-stamped in a meeting room but it was undeniably won on the pitch.
Celtic have scored more goals, won more games and earned more points than every other club in the SPFL. We have however fallen short numerically in terms of statements and press releases, of which we’ve produced very few in comparison to some clubs. Quality is better than quantity though and the statement from Peter Lawwell today was pitch perfect
(full text at link below):
“We dedicate this title to everyone who has cared for us and all those who have been affected by these times of challenge and difficulty. As we have said before, against a backdrop of global crisis, all areas of society are experiencing huge adversity and it is vital that we take a moment to remember this.
Celtic has a charitable purpose at its core and during these unprecedented times of crisis we felt it was crucial that we stood up and supported those in need. I am delighted to report that through Celtic FC Foundation we have now committed £450,000 to this effort.”
http://www.celticfc.net/news/18099
Titles are won by collective effort of course but it’s worth highlighting that Neil Lennon has now won five titles as a manager, to add to his five as a player, while Scott Brown and James Forrest have matched the feat of Lisbon Lions Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox in winning their ninth successive titles as players... and they’re not finished yet!
As things stand, the players are due to resume normal training in Lennoxtown on 10 June (only marginally earlier than usual but at least they’ve had some rest for once) but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what the calendar for the new season will look like. Either way, to quote the late, great Tommy Burns, we’ll be there because we’re always there!
We hope you are all well and have managed to stay healthy and safe (and sane!) during this trying period. Enjoy this moment, we’re making history!
Hail! Hail!

18/02/2020 : FC KOBENHAVN V CELTIC (EUROPA LEAGUE ROUND OF 32) THURSDAY, 20th FEBRUARY 2020
Hello Bhoys and Ghirls,
Ciarán here once again. I’ll be filling in for David for a little while longer while he works on a couple of projects for Brussels CSC members later this season, so watch this space. In the meantime...
FC KOBENHAVN V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE ROUND OF 32, THURSDAY, 20th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF @ 18:55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Having seized the initiative in the domestic title race, Celtic return to Europa League action with the chance to build on our exploits in the group stages.
FC Kobenhavn are reigning champions of Denmark but their title defence is in trouble as they currently lag four points behind FC Midtjylland, led by former Celt Erik Sviatchenko, having played a game more. After a two-month winter break, Kobenhavn returned to league action on Friday 14 February but lost 1-0 to relegation-threatened Esbjerg.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone played for Esbjerg in that match and was quoted in the Herald this week as saying he expected Celtic to beat Kobenhavn.
“Celtic should expect a lot of balls into the box because you know how direct Kobenhavn will be. The key to beating Kobenhavn is concentration and working as a unit at the back [...] but I think Celtic should be encouraged by watching our performance against them on Friday. We’ve shown Celtic the way to do it. You have to be compact and solid then let your quality come through. I’m sure Celtic have that quality.”
Mannone highlighted the physical front pair of N’Doye and Sotiriou, as well as midfield playmaker Zeca, as the players to watch in the Kobenhavn side but we all know he speaks the truth in saying we have real quality, as we have shown in Europe already this season.
Kobenhavn came through a group comprising Malmo, Lugano and Dynamo Kyiv. No mean feat but Celtic beat Lazio home and away, the same Lazio who are unbeaten in Italy since September and are now being seriously tipped as challengers for the Serie A title.
We have built real momentum since returning from our winter break and the defeat of Aberdeen in tough conditions on Sunday will have left our Bhoys full of confidence. There really couldn’t be a better time to resume European action.
Another thing to note about this match is that VAR will be in use, a first for Celtic. We can only hope it won’t be needed (!)
Hail! Hail!

14/02/2020 : ABERDEEN V CELTIC (SPFL) SUNDAY, 16th FEBRUARY 2020
Hello Bhoys and Ghirls,
Ciarán here, standing in for David.
ABERDEEN V CELTIC, SPFL, SUNDAY, 16th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF @ 13:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
It has been a significant week in the title race, significant but not yet decisive. We’re now ten points clear of our noisy neighbours, albeit having played a game more, and while that puts us firmly in the driving seat there is still a lot of football to be played.
That said, given the form we’re in and the fact that several players are returning from injury we have plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
On our last visit to Pittodrie in October, Celtic blew Aberdeen away in the first half and ran out 4-0 winners. Something similar this time would be ideal!
Aberdeen have been struggling for form recently, especially in front of goal, but they looked a bit more like their old selves in beating Hamilton in midweek. However, that’s nothing compared to Celtic’s recent run of form, during which we definitely have not struggled in front of goal!
A solid win over Aberdeen would be another step towards retaining our title and set us up nicely for Kobenhavn in midweek
Hail! Hail!

Up for the cup, with no banana skins required, only waterproofs...
CLYDE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH CUP 5th ROUND, SUNDAY, 9th FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF @ 15:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Weather conditions permitting, Celtic will face Clyde in the Scottish Cup with a place in the last 12 at stake, and the media are already asking if lightning can strike twice. Forecasters may be best to stick to meteorology as there is probably more chance of lightning actually striking, with Clyde a league lower than the last time they faced an ageing Celtic team. Christie and Elyounoussi are being touted for a start, which would terrify a top-string team, but Neil Lennon has promised a ‘few changes’.
To give them respect, the Bully Wee have some familiar names in their squad, with David ‘Badprick’ Goodwillie, Gregg Wylde and John Rankin in their ranks, so Celtic will not take anything for granted. There is a chance the game may not go ahead, as weather conditions are not looking good. Storm Ciara is coming in, and that brings difficult portents, and memories of a wild night in Temple Bar.

01/02/2020 : HAMILTON ACADEMICAL V CELTIC (SPFL) SUNDAY, 2nd FEBRUARY 2020
They think it’s all over...
HAMILTON ACADEMICAL V CELTIC, SPFL, SUNDAY, 2nd FEBRUARY
KICK-OFF @ 13:30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
With some welcome and unwelcome events closing at the end of January: dry January, Brexit and the transfer window, it’s back to business in the league for Celtic. They still sit in prime place to retain their lead at the top of the SPFL, and will be looking for a first 30 minutes similar to Wednesday evening, where St Johnstone were summarily put to the sword.
The lineup is highly likely to include the rejuvenated Griffiths and Ntcham alongside the usual suspects, and Greg Taylor would also be expected to retain his place after an effective showing. Simonovic may be rested, and probably too soon for Soro. Moritz Bauer may also be finding himself firmly on the bench.
Whatever the lineup, Lenny will look for the team to keep up the momentum for what will be a busy spell of games coming up.

22/01/2020 : KILMARNOCK V CELTIC (SPFL) WEDNESDAY, 22nd JANUARY 2020
We’re back on nights...
This is the time of year for charity, for peace on earth and good will to all men... but we’ll forget about that for ninety minutes on Sunday.
KILMARNOCK V CELTIC, SPFL, WEDNESDAY, 22nd JANUARY
KICK-OFF @ 20:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
With the match at Rugby Park televised tonight on Sky, full focus will return on the dreadful Rugby Park pitch, and fans will be hoping the performance can match the pies after a lacklustre if successful showing at the weekend. Kilmarnock will be certain to adopt a similar approach to Partick Thistle that has sometimes yielded results for other teams ‘ defend and hope to get lucky’.
Mikey Johnston and Kris Ajer have resumed training, so may come back into contention, although El Hamed remains crocked, but perhaps for not as long as envisaged. Forrest, Elyounoussi and Bitton are also still out, while Ryan Christie will serve the last match of his suspension.
A good chance to see more game time for Griffiths, Klimala, Rogic and Arzani.

2020 vision...
PARTICK THISTLE V CELTIC, SCOTTISH CUP 4th ROUND, SATURDAY, 18th JANUARY
KICK-OFF @ 18:30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back to business at Firhill for thrills. From the delights of Dubai to the moistness of Maryhill, Celtic will have a change of environment, but not of approach as they look to retake the initiative after a disappointing loss to Glasgow’s 3rd team before the break.
Lenny’s Bhoys will be well drilled and hopefully refreshed by their break, and with the squad possibly also ready to be refreshed through the addition of Patryk Klimala taking Scott Sinclair’s no. 11 jersey, and our new Polish Paddy will have to work to make his way into the team, but may get a chance today, as may Griff, with a few absentees. El Hamed and Johnston will be missing, with doubts over Forrest and Ajer, and Morgan on his way to the US. That may mean opportunities for Shved, the lesser-spotted Daniel Arzani, and perhaps some of the youngsters who impressed in the recent 1-0 win in London over Chelsea.
Focus will be as important as anything, and the match will come too soon for the inbound Ismaila Soro, but some fringe players may have the shine at the Energy Check stadium, which may be an apt location for Neil Lennon to see who has the ability to push into his team for the 2nd half of the season.

27/12/2019 : CELTIC V RANGERS (SPFL) SUNDDAY, 29th DECEMBER 2019
Hello bhoys and girls,
Happy Christmas and happy holidays to you all!
This is the time of year for charity, for peace on earth and good will to all men... but we’ll forget about that for ninety minutes on Sunday.
CELTIC V RANGERS, SPFL, SUNDAY, 29th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 13:30, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The importance of this game needs no explanation. Our lovely neighbours from Kinning Park seem to think that they can take our title from us. On Sunday, we need to burst their bubble and put them in their place.
The Bhoys go into the game on the back of eleven straight league wins and having scored 99 goals so far this season. We have also won both derby games, one convincingly at Ibroke and the other at Hampden to win our fourth consecutive League Cup. You all saw their players’ reactions after that game and Slippy Stevie G said himself they couldn’t have played any better. We can though and we will.
Neil Lennon has almost a full complement of players to choose from. Only Elhamed, Elyounoussi and possibly Hayes are injured. Our key players are in good form - Forrest and McGregor both scored against St Mirren yesterday, Edouard had a goal wrongly chalked off for offside which would have added to his goal against Aberdeen on the 21st and Jullien and Ajer look increasingly imperious in defence alongside La Gran Muralla.
The fact is that the HMRC XI badly need a result so they’ll have to take the game to us but we have the players to hurt them. A win for us would be the perfect way to end the year as we head into the winter break and would put us very much in control of the ‘title race’. Wherever we all find ourselves in this holiday season, let’s get behind our Bhoys and end the decade in style!

16/12/2019 : HEARTS V CELTIC (SPFL) WEDNESDAY, 18th DECEMBER 2019
This is Ciarán, David's #2 at the Brussels Celtic Supporters' Club. David is taking his mid-season break and will be away on warm-weather training for the next couple of weeks. So, as the Kennedy to his Lennon, I'll be manning the fort in his absence.
HEARTS V CELTIC, SPFL, WEDNESDAY, 18th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 20:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After a good win against Hibs yesterday, Celtic take on the other side of Edinburgh on Wednesday evening. The Jam Farts have had a terrible season so far and, amusingly, are languishing second-bottom of the league, level on points with bottom side Hamilton. Their new manager Daniel Stendel took charge for the first time on Saturday but his side lost 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers St Johnstone.
However, they always raise their level of performance/thuggery when Celtic come to visit so we can expect a tough game nonetheless. Celtic made it eight league wins in a row against Hibs on Sunday so, after allowing the sevconians to enjoy being league leaders for an hour or two, normal service has been resumed at the top of the table.
This is always a difficult time of the season for Celtic. We shouldn't underestimate the challenge of such an intense fixture list and the need to manage the squad. So far this season we're doing it really well, not just getting the results we need but playing with some real quality too. Let's look forward to that continuing on Wednesday!
Hail! Hail!

There are no free hits at Celtic...
CLUJ V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E, THURSDAY, 12th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 18:55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The words of Calum McGregor in his summing up of the opportunity presented tonight to some fringe players will be well observed. No risks are being taken on core members of the squad, and McGregor, the suspended Broonie, Forster, Edouard, Christie and Rogic have all been left at home in Glasgow, as their team mates have jetted out to Romania for the final match in a group stage where Celtic have already won the group and qualified, just days after winning the League Cup. You knew that, but I liked typing it again..
This means opportunities for Celtic fans to see the likes of Karamoko Dembele, Grant Savoury and the slightly less newspaper headline friendly Scott Robertson may well feature, while it has been confirmed that Craig Gordon, Moritz Bauer, Nir Bitton, Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths will all play. Olivier Ntcham will complete his club rehabilitation by captaining the side. A great night for a celebration, and for some players to show they should be considered for selection.

10 in a row?
CELTIC V THE RANGERS, SCOTTISH LEAGUE CUP FINAL, SUNDAY, 8th DECEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 16:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Time for Neil Lennon to get his hands on the only trophy he has never won in Scotland, as the Bhoys gear up for a Cup Final against improving opponents who have never won a trophy at this level. Lenny’s Celts have been flying in big games, and after our captain had to rescue the win on Wednesday night, we can expect a nearly full-strength team for the final. Hatem El Hamed will be the likely absentee, while French Eddy, Hayes, Bolingoli and Moy all return to contention, meaning real competition for places in the squad tomorrow.
Edouard will be the real boost, despite the form of Morgan, and the atmosphere promises to be electric once more, as the Bhoys continue their relentless pursuit of trophies – this one being the tenth in a row they will have won if successful tomorrow.

30/11/2019 : ROSS COUNTY V CELTIC (SPFL) SUNDAY, 1st DECEMBER 2019
The Bhoys are back in league business, in the Highland metropolis of Dingwall
ROSS COUNTY V CELTIC, SPFL, SUNDAY, 1st DECEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 13:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After a real breakthrough night in European football at Celtic Park, where Celtic won their European Group (with a match to spare) for the first time, the reality check on a trip north of the wall. Although conditions may be Baltic, undersoil heating at Victoria Park should see the Celts kick off at lunchtime on schedule. There are likely to be a few changes, although Lewis Morgan, Leigh Griffiths and Mikey Johnston will all be giving the manager something to think about, as has Frimpong recently. Edouard will probably be allowed some more time off with a niggle, but Lenny will want a quick response after a thrilling midweek win.
Ross County have indicated they are only about survival this season, but their recent form has seen losses away to St Mirren and home to Aberdeen, so few signs they will be optimistic, and will have to do without Celtic loaness Ewan Henderson who has started the last 2 games and regularly featured for the Staggies. Neil Lennon wills end his Bhoys looking for 3 points, goals, and to show they should be considered for the League Cup Final next Sunday, although there will still be a midweek match against Hamilton at Celtic Park to negotiate.

28/11/2019 : CELTIC V RENNES (EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E) THURSDAY, 29th NOVEMBER 2019
How good does it feel to be top of the group?
CELTIC V RENNES, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E, THURSDAY, 29th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 21:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
We’re back at Celtic Par, and the Michael Collins for the home fixture to Rennes, knowing that the Bhoys have already qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League, and now looking to confirm top place in the group with a victory tonight (if Cluj lose in Rome). Rennes cannot qualify, and have their own injuries, notably their top scorer M’Baye Niang. Neil Lennon will similarly have to do without Jonny Hayes and possibly Hatem El Hamed tonight, so Rutger Bauer and Greg Taylor are likely to make the step up, as may Olivier Ntcham and possibly fit-again Mikey Johnston.
With a section of the stand closed at Celtic Park, Lenny will be looking for the noise to come from elsewhere in the crowd, knowing we have a few more European nights to look forward to regardless of tonight’s outcome, and knowing the Bhoys have nothing to fear from any team in this group if they play their own game properly.

CELTIC v MOTHERWELL, SPFL, SUNDAY, 10th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 16:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic are back on league business today after a glorious Thursday night in Europe, and back at home at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon has dropped hints that Griffiths and Rogic may be ready, and perhaps also a place for Mikey Johnston, but Elhamed looks likely to be at least rested after limping off in Rome.
Potential banana skin for Celtic, with Stephen Robison a sought after manager in both sides of Edinburgh after impressing, and Celtic understandably tired after their exertions, but no excuses with the depth of squad, and with other teams still in the fight for the title, at least for now.

All roads lead to…
LAZIO V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E, THURSDAY, 7th NOVEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 18:55, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
The bhoys are on their European travels again, and after a last-gasp winner at Celtic Park, they’ll be looking to see if they can secure their place in the enxt round with a win in Rome. A win for Celtic and one for Cluj would see them automatically qualify, but Neil Lennon is likely to be happy with any points away from home with a home match to Rennes and an away fixture to Cluj still to come.
Lenny has a few injuries to contend with, and Bayo out and Griffiths training but unlikely, and Simunovic continues his rehabilitation, and the only new doubt is Bolingoli, so Edouard will have to carry the frontman duties, although recent performance suggest he won’t carry the scoring duties as Christie, Forrest, Elyonoussi, McGregor and even Broony are finding their shooting boots. For Lazio, Caicedo and Immobile are doubtful, which may be a boost to the Bhoys, but whatever the line-up, the atmosphere should be ‘interesting’ with around 9,000 fans hopefully avoiding trouble in Rome. Live in the Michael Collins tomorrow night.

24/10/2019 : CELTIC V LAZIO (EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E) THURSDAY, 24th OCTOBER 2019
Big European Nights back at Celtic Park
CELTIC V LAZIO, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E, THURSDAY, 24th OCTOBER
KICK-OFF @ 21:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic look to build on their best start ever in the Europa League, but to do so they will have to do something special by failing to be defeated for three consecutive group matches. They will have to overcome a Lazio side who some may have pegged as favourites to win the group, but who, like Celtic, slipped to a surprise defeat to Cluj, admittedly in Romania, and were put to the test by Rennes at home. Signs for optimism for Neil Lennon, although Lazio will have Ciro Immobile available once more, and he scored twice (from penalties, admittedly) at the weekend. Other danger men will be Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Joaquin Correa, the latter also scoring in the 3-0 win over Atalanta on Saturday.
Although Lazio had an extra day to prepare, Lenny’s Bhoys will be ready, fresh from the 6-0 thrashing of Ross County, and without the long trek to Dingwall. Although comparisons are difficult between Staggies and Romans, the Bhoys will feel they put in good enough performances against the other teams in the Europa League group, and will expect to attack Lazio. The impressive Frimpong is unavailable for this match, so Elhamed will likely return after being rested on Sunday, and Ntcham will miss out, but Ryan Christie is once more available mid-suspension.
A reminder that tonight will be the last chance to register an interest for the December trip to see PC Lustig in Ghent.

Pitch perfect? Highly unlikely.
LIVINGSTON V CELTIC, SPFL, SUNDAY, 6th OCTOBER
KICK-OFF @ 13:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic take on both the team and the pitch at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday, with a very early kick-off after their Thursday night exertions put them top of their Europa League group. The welcome improvement in performance allows Neil Lennon to consider shuffling the team again, with the likes of Mikey Johnston, Nir Bitton, Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic, Jonny Hayes and the villain from Die Hard among those possible to start. Leigh Griffiths still won’t make it, and Bayo is also back in contention after serving suspension on Thursday.
The pitch will be a factor, and Lenny will look to players who can create chances after last weekend’s draw and the same in the last fixture at this ground.

Time for some payback, or just progress?
CELTIC V CFR CLUJ, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP E, THURSDAY, 3rd OCTOBER
KICK-OFF @ 21:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
We’re back in European action tonight, and against the opponents who put Celtic out of the Champions League, just before the same to themselves. It will be a different proposition, as Neil Lennon has pointed out, with a new ‘keeper and more options across the back 4 than the qualifier, but Celtic will hav eto get the job done properly, and Broony will have to not try to catch the ball. Celtic are focussed on progress, not revenge.
The squad is farily strong, Bitton is once more available, and Rogic & Bauer will have a late check, but Johnston and Griff will miss out. The main injury doubt for Cluj seems to be their coach, Dan Petrescu, taken ill before the game, as their main strikers seem ready to return after weekend injuries.
The game is live in the Michael Collins despite a heavy TV schedule just now.
Please note: we will be looking to schedule some other club activities, including a trip to Gent to meet up with PC Lustig, and to find a match we can attend at Celtic Park, in the very near future, so watch this space.

Easy like Sunday Morning?
CELTIC v KILMARNOCK, SPFL, SUNDAY, 22nd SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 14:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic return from their European adventures on Thursday night with a home lunchtime kick off, and welcoming Killie to Celtic Park. An enforced change may see Greg Taylor replace the injured Bolingoli at left back, facing his former teammates, and a few more changes may be anticipated with some tired legs.
Kilmarnock have a few improved results after a shaky start under Angelo Alessio, and the match is confirmed as being shown alongside the Rugby World Cup matches. Many Celtic fans will have their eyes on the other fixture at the Michael Collins this morning, where Scotland-Ireland starts shortly. May the best team win, so long as it’s Scotland.

Celtic take on hyperbole to stay top of the SPFL...
THE RANGERS V CELTIC, SPFL, SATURDAY, 1st SEPTEMBER
KICK-OFF @ 13:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic head across Glasgow to a new team in an old stadium, as they face The Rangers at 1pm today. The match is eagerly anticipated by former players we haven’t heard about for a few years who are sure that this will be a big test. Neil Lennon has worked hard in the past few changes to bring in players, and it looks like there may be some game time for new signings Moritz Bauer and Mohamed Elyounoussi. The other interesting positions may be at left-back, where Greg Taylor’s move from Kilmarnock may be fast tracked in time for him to play, and in goal, as we see who Neil Lennon’s first pick will be.
Whatever the lineup, there are goals in this team, and we can expect a similar attacking four and midfield for today. Let’s get behind them!

AIK V CELTIC, EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFYING PLAYOFFS, THURSDAY, 29nd AUGUST
KICK-OFF @ 19:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
So Celtic head to Stockholm tonight with the job half done but then we.ve been here before. Neil Lennon will be looking for a similar approach, performance and ball retention as in the home leg, but expects AIK to attack, even if according to some Swedish commentators that is not their forte. He will doubtless be looking for an away goal to settle some nerves, and should expect to field a similar lineup to that which achieved the 2-0 advantage at Celtic Park. Jozo Simunovic possibly won’t make it, but Hatem Abd Elhamed should be fit to return at full back and allow Kris Ajer to return to the centre, although some Celtic fans might prefer Ajer to continue in the position given recent form. Bitton also remains an option, and Gordon will return in goal with Forster not registered, and likewise new signing Moritz Bauer ineligible.
We’ll cheer on the Bhoys to finish the job in the Michael Collins, kick off 7pm.

What did I say about home advantage?
CELTIC V AIK, EUROPA LEAGUE QUALIFYING PLAYOFFS, THURSDAY, 22nd AUGUST
KICK-OFF @ 20:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic move back into the Europa League playoffs after a bitterly disappointing result in the Champions League. While they would expect to beat a weaker opponent such as AIK, the same was said regarding Cluj. The bonus points for this evening will be that Allmanna Idrottsklubben, to give them their Sunday name, have a number of key players missing, notably Tarik Elyounoussi and Nabil Bahoui, two players who have scored key goals for the team. Celtic look to be virtually full strength, with only doubts over Elhamed, although too soon for Tom Rogic to make his return on the park. Assuming the deal goes through, Fraser Forster may make his return to Celtic Park, although too late to be in contention.
Shown live in the Michael Collins, we look for an improved showing tonight.

Home advantage will need to count…
CELTIC V CFR CLUJ, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 3rd QUALIFYING ROUND, TUESDAY, 13th AUGUST
KICK-OFF @ 20:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
Celtic welcome (if that is the word) Dan Petrescu’s Cluj to Celtic Park, having managed a 1-1 draw in the away leg. The Bhoys rested a few players at the weekend, with Edouard and Christie left on the bench for most of the 5-2 win away to Motherwell, and those with injury issues such as Elhamed and Johnston were not risked. Simunovic also comes back into contention after completing his domestic ban.
The Bhoys will certainly be confident they can score goals after clinical finishing at the weekend, but Neil Lennon will look for more discipline in defence after conceding a late goal on Saturday. Dan Petrescu has tried a few amateur mind games ahead of the match, saying that the referee will be more inclined to give decisions to Celtic, a comment which seems unlikely for anyone who has watched European football, well, ever. He has also said he gets ‘scared’ watching Celtic and that they will need to defend well, so they may be ready to attack Celtic. On the football side, they recorded a 3-0 win in their own league.
Confirmed as being shown live in the Michael Collins, we look to march on in Europe!

Praying for no miracles…
CFR CLUJ V CELTIC, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 3rd QUALIFYING ROUND, WEDNESDAY, 7th AUGUST
KICK-OFF @ 20:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After some impressive performances and results, including the weekend thumping of St. Johnstone. Despite talk to the contrary, and the bewildering description of Celtic’s style as ‘long-ball’, Cluj will be no mugs, and this represents a real challenge with players still coming in.
Changes mean that although the transfer rumours have died down in the past few weeks, we may be starting with 3 players at the back who are new arrivals at Celtic Park this season, Boli Bolingoli and Elhamed looking likely to be starting, although the most recent rumour targets, Jozo and Ajer may be likely to start ahead of Jullien, with an all Scottish midfield highly likely in front of them. Cluj are likely to be missing their ‘best ever’ player in Argentine Emmanuel Culio, but Lenny will not be swayed by talk from coach Dan ‘Pet Rescue’ Petrescu of Cluj being the underdogs, and of miracles required.
Late post as the Premier Sports showing means this will be shown live in the Michael Collins with an 8pm kickoff.

Hail! Hail!

29/07/2019 : NÕMME KALJU V CELTIC (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2nd QUALIFYING ROUND) TUESDAY, 30th JULY 2019
Let’s try that one again, again…
NÕMME KALJU V CELTIC, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2nd QUALIFYING ROUND, TUESDAY, 30th JULY
KICK-OFF @ 19:00, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
We go again in Europe, just a few days before the season properly starts, and with a comfortable margin after last week’s impressive showing and result at Celtic Park. 5-0 means that while Neil Lennon will be relaxed, he won’t allow complacency, as apparently shown by the half-time dressing down in the dressing room at Celtic Park, for the relatively lacklustre start before 3 quick goals before the interval.
Many pundits are predicting that we may finally get sight of the likes of Christopher Jullien, Shved and Bayo in the return fixture in Tallinn, as Lenny has practically admitted that Jullien will start and the others will feature. The Estonians have slashed ticket prices to ensure their fans turn up for what may be seen by some as a ‘dead rubber’. Unlikely that the match won’t be taken seriously, and after three ties of dominating possession, we may get to see our counter-attacking capabilities, although the reputedly nippy Hatem Adb Elhamed is not yet eligible, but Boli Bolingoli may return having shaken off his illness from last week.
Confirmed that despite last week’s technical difficulties, this will be shown live in the Michael Collins with a 7pm kickoff.

24/07/2019 : CELTIC V NÕMME KALJU (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2nd QUALIFYING ROUND) WEDNESDAY, 24th JULY 2019
Round 2…
CELTIC V NÕMME KALJU, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2nd QUALIFYING ROUND, WEDNESDAY, 24th JULY
KICK-OFF @ 20:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
For technical reasons, this match will no longer be shown in the Michael Collins. Apologies- we should be back next week.
Back to Celtic Park, for a clash against Estonian Champions Nomme Kalju as we get the 2nd of 3 qualifying rounds underway (not forgetting the playoffs). Neil Lennon should have the same XI available who managed to get the job done against Sarajevo, and Chris Jullien and Leigh Griffiths, amongst others, will have another week’s training in their legs, although Lenny looks likely to stick with the same starting lineup as last week, although Mikey Johnston may be returning and could come into contention, as can Shved and Bayo.
Whatever the lineup, the Bhoys will face a team who managed the impressive feat of overturning a home defeat by winning 2-1 in North Macedonia against Shkendija. The Estonian champions were invincibles last season, but now sit in 4th place in their league, one which is 20 games in, so match sharpness will be high, although they have drawn their last 3 games, resting key players at times, including last Friday.
A win for Celtic after this game and the return in Tallinn will see the Bhoys pitted against Maccabi Tel-Aviv or Cluj, while a loss would see them drop into the Europa League for a match against Luxembourg's F91 Dudelange or, ermm Shkendija. Which also means one scenario is that Nomme Kalju may have to defeat the same team twice. Rosenborg, anyone?
We’ll concentrate on our own performances, and hope for continuing European nights. Dress light, and wear sunscreen for the 37 degree forecast temperature, and the match will be shown live on TV.

09/07/2019 : SARAJEVO V CELTIC (CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 1st QUALIFYING ROUND) TUESDAY, 9th JULY 2019
Guess who’s back?
SARAJEVO V CELTIC, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 1st QUALIFYING ROUND, TUESDAY, 9th JULY
KICK-OFF @ 19:45, LIVE IN THE MICHAEL COLLINS
After a full 45 days break – at least for the Celtic supporters, we’re back in action, for the first of presumably around 45 matches to attempt to get into the Champions League Group stages, which was so notably contested in May between two teams who hadn’t been Champions in their domestic league since before it was rebranded the Champions League. However, we’re back, and although a short time has passed since Celtic won everything in Scotland, we’re going to try to do it all again. And have a few matches in Europe, hopefully.
Quite a few changes at Celtic since this newsletter last went out. Lenny was confirmed as manager immediately after the Scottish Cup Final, and quite a few players will be lining up for Celtic as, or like, new signings, like Chris Jullien, Boli Bolingoli Mbombo, Luca Connell. Lewis Morgan has returned from his loan spell, and Eboue Kouassi, Daniel Arzani, Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo return from injury.
Kieran Tierney, Jack Hendry and Marian Shved won’t make the match tonight, but Lenny has lots of options, including some younger players, but not Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa, Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Filip Benkovic, Scott Allan, Youssouf Mulumbu, Oliver Burke, Jeremy Toljan and sadly, Marvin Compper, who have all left the club.
The match is confirmed as being shown in the Michael Collins tonight. See you there!
